John Perkins: Confessions of an Economic Hitman Ontology |
2016/2025 |
In John Perkins: Confessions of an Ecomomic Hitman the American author of the eponymous book (published 2004) describes his role as former chief-economist at the consulting firm Chas T. John Perkins. He reveals how multinational corporations and U.S. government agencies manipulate developing countries through debt, corruption, and economic pressure. Perkins describes his role as an economic hitman in convincing foreign leaders to accept large loans for infrastructure projects that basically benefit U.S. interests while indebting their nations. A revolving door exists between multinational corporations, the banks, the government as well as the media forged by a corporatocracy, a system where business corporations in cahoots with the lobby industry, have a dominant influence on the political, economic, and judicial institutions, that is merely ruled by self-interest and greed. The interview with John Perkins was conducted by Johan Grimonprez as part of his research for Shadow World (2016), his documentary about the global arms trade.
